Lillehammer has approximately 27.000 inhabitants and is located on the northern shore of Mjøsa, Norway's largest lake. Hafjell ski resort is only a 15 kilometer drive away from Lillehammer, in Øyer kommune. The 1994 Winter Olympics were placed in the Lillehammer region and made the region clearly visible on the international "tourist map". Hosting the Olympics made the sports facilities and opportunities for active citizens and tourists even greater. In 2016, the Youth Winter Olympic Games were hosted in Lillehammer. This time, ambitious young athletes were competing for the medals. In other words, Lillehammer has and will continue to be a great host city for different sports and cultural events.

If you like being outdoors, the opportunities in Lillehammer are many. You can go for walks in the woods, sledding in the hills, ice skating and skiing. All within reach from the city. The Lillehammer region is famous for its ski terrain, both cross-country and downhill, and its excellent winter sport facilities. Nearby at Nordseter and Sjusjøen, you'll find the best network of cross-country ski trails in Northern Europe, comprising 350 km. The excellent ski centre is located at Hafjell, 15 minutes away by ski bus, and offers a mountain village feel with full amenities and ski in/out accommodation.
